Grand Canyon men’s basketball games will return to 1580 The Fanatic for the third consecutive season after GCU and CRC Broadcasting Company agreed to extend their radio partnership for the 2019-20 season.
“We are proud to continue our broadcast agreement with 1580 The Fanatic for a third straight season,” GCU Interim Vice President of Athletics Jamie Boggs said. “GCU is excited to continue to provide an avenue for Lope Nation to listen to games both in Phoenix and around the country.”
All games, home and away, can be heard on the AM (1580) and FM (99.3 and 95.9) dials in the Phoenix metropolitan area, as well as worldwide on 1580TheFanatic.com and the 1580 The Fanatic mobile app.
“It is with great pride for all of us here at The Fanatic to continue as the radio home for GCU Lopes basketball,” CRC President and CEO Ron Cohen said. “We are excited to team with GCU for another successful season. Lopes up!”
GCU alumnus Michael Potter returns for his 11th season calling the action for all 30 regular-season games, one exhibition game, the 2020 WAC Tournament and postseason play. Potter is joined by Lopes Insider Paul Coro as an analyst for the second straight season.
Radio broadcasts will begin with a 15-minute pregame show featuring Lopes head coach Dan Majerle. Postgame reaction will include interviews with Majerle and a standout GCU player.
Additionally, Majerle will join 1580 The Fanatic’s Monty in the Morning for a weekly segment during basketball season.
The Fanatic (KQFN-AM), an all-sports radio station, debuted in the Valley in February 2017 on 1580 AM and is simulcast on two Valley FM channels, 99.3 (Greater Phoenix) and 95.9 (East Valley). The broadcast on one AM and two FM channels enables Valley-wide listening of the Fanatic, unprecedented in the Phoenix market.
The Fanatic is the Phoenix affiliate of CBS Sports Radio which features the popular Jim Rome Show. The station recently announced it secured the exclusive rights to broadcast Westwood One Radio Network’s live play-by-play coverage of NFL primetime games including Monday, Thursday and Sunday night football, the full NFL Playoffs and the 2020 Super Bowl.
