Maroon Madness Sweet 16: No. 2 Randall McDaniel vs. No. 6 Danny White

Two guys who have their numbers hanging in Sun Devil Stadium match up against each another.

The Matchup:

Two of the most successful Sun Devils on the gridiron. Randall McDaniel, being both a 1987 Rose Bowl champion and a National Football League Hall of Famer, wowed fans his entire career. Danny White left nothing short to his name either, his Arizona State jersey was retired after winning three Fiesta Bowls was nearly overshadowed by his 13 seasons with the Cowboys, winning Super Bowl XII along the way.

Career Defining Moment:

McDaniel: It’s difficult to lock one down for McDaniel. Grinding in the trenches his entire career, the man will go down as one of the toughest football players of all-time. It’s almost disrespectful to lock one specific moment down for an athlete that started 202 consecutive games. McDaniel’s career was defining, though consistent years of grit and hard-work, there’s no surprise the former sun devil is in the hall.

White: White’s championships in the maroon and gold are without a doubt defining. But for White, it was his come from behind victory over the Atlanta Falcons in 1980 to win 30-27 and advance to the NFC Championship. White led the Cowboys to the NFC championship three consecutive seasons.

Where are they now?

McDaniel is a man of the community. He has volunteered in public schools in the twin cities since his playing days in 1990’s.

The 53-year-old and his wife Marianne run Team McDaniel, as it supports youth activities in Minnesota.

Following his playing and coaching career, White has led a successful career in motivational speaking. He makes constant corporate appearances and speaks to football athletes and teams. He is also an offensive consultant for the ASU football team.
