Local CBS Sports Radio affiliate to carry live game broadcasts on three channels

PHOENIX – Grand Canyon University and CRC Broadcasting Company have agreed to a radio partnership to broadcast the 2017-18 season of men’s basketball games on 1580 The Fanatic.
The Fanatic will broadcast 15-minute pregame and postgame shows before and after every men’s basketball game throughout the season. The agreement includes a 9 a.m. Tuesday morning segment with head coach Dan Majerle during The Morning Fanatics with Craig Fouhy and Mike Bauer.
“We are proud to be partnering with The Fanatic for what we hope to be the most exciting season of GCU basketball yet,” Mike Vaught, Vice President of Athletics at GCU, said. “It is our first season of tournament eligibility and we are excited that our fans will be able to follow along with all the action anywhere in the Valley.”
The GCU Radio Network broadcast team of Michael Potter and Tom Kuyper will continue to provide play-by-play and game analysis, respectively. Potter enters his ninth season as the radio voice of Grand Canyon men’s basketball. Kuyper joined the broadcast team prior to the 2016-17 season, but begins his 15th season as a college basketball color analyst.
“We are thrilled and eager to be the new home for GCU Lopes basketball,” said Ron Cohen, GM of the Fanatic and President/CEO of Parent CRC Broadcasting Company. “With the growing success of GCU’s basketball program, the timing couldn’t be better and we are ready to support the team and the fans.”
The Fanatic (KQFN-AM), an all-sports radio station, debuted in the Valley in February 2017 on 1580AM and is simulcast on two Valley FM channels, 99.3 (Greater Phoenix) and 95.9 (East Valley).  The one AM and two FM channel simulcast will enable Valley wide listening of the Fanatic, unprecedented in Valley radio.
The Fanatic features content from CBS Sports Radio and SB Nation Radio, including the popular Jim Rome Show, live college and pro games, plus over 12 hours of daily local sports talk programming. The station’s weekday lineup includes:

  • “The Morning Fanatics” with Valley broadcast veteran Craig Fouhy ABC15’s Sports Anchor/Director and Mike (Jack) Bauer, former FOX 910AM KGME show host and assistant program director from 6am-10am
  • CBS Sports Radio’s Jim Rome live from 10am to 12pm
  • “The Monty Show” with Tim Montemayor and Jake Montemayor
  • The longest running Valley sports radio show  “Roc and Manuch with Crespin” with Mike ‘Roc’ Muraco, Dan Manucci and Shawn Crespin from 3 to 6pm

The Fanatic is also the home for all Statewide and Phoenix area prep sports (AIA Radio Network), NASCAR (MRN/PRN), The Arizona Rattlers, Northern Arizona University Football and Basketball (airs on sister station Money Radio 1510AM/105.3FM), and both NCAA Football and NFL live games
About CRC Broadcasting Company
Cohen started CRC Broadcasting Company with his Phoenix station 1510AM KFNN in 1988 as the nation’s first news talk radio station programmed exclusively for business, economic, and investment-related topics. Now its 28th year, the Phoenix area’s longest locally owned and operated radio station changed its name in 2010 to “Money Radio”, rebranding the station to mirror its acquisition of the domain name moneyradio.com. With the recent addition of KQFN 1580 The Fanatic, CRC is now considered to be one of top news and sports broadcasting outlets in the Valley.
