Brett “Bernie” Bernhisel has been a valley resident for over 45yrs. Brett Attended both Scottsdale and Saguaro high schools. While attending Scottsdale CC for two years Brett had the opportunity to follow in his father’s footsteps, who has been a PGA of America member since 1970.
After running Villa Monterey golf club in Scottsdale for a couple of years, Brett got the opportunity to go caddie for his long time friend R.W. Eaks on the then Hogan Tour now called the Web. Com. Tour.
After a couple of seasons on tour, Brett decided to come back home and find a career. He decided the restaurant and hospitality business was what he wanted to do. after many years in the industry the Mastros group came calling and in 1999 Brett ran their first Mastros up in North Scottsdale.
During that time he also co-hosted and started ” Backspin the Golf Show’ on xtra sports 910 here in the valley, once again the phone rang and Brett had a chance to branch out and started his own show on KTAR/KMVP called ” Bunker to Bunker the Golf Show” and to stay even busier he signed on to do ” Golf Arizona” co-hosted with Valley resident and former Ryder Cup player Dan Pohl on Fox Sports Arizona.
After a couple of years doing both, Brett’s love for carrying golf clubs took over again, and once again he headed out for the green grass for a few more years, chasing that elusive caddy trophy “18th hole flag” though he never accomplished that, though he came close many times being on the road so much took its toll. Brett came home and helped opened “The SandBar “in Scottsdale and later found the love of his life his bride now of over three years Ellie.
Still a Scottsdale resident and avid golfer though not as good as he once was Brett still follows the game and remains very close to players and caddies on the PGA tour.
